Bats, books, and engines.

Chiang Mai, early evening, from Doi Suthep. The long strip on the right is the airport.

Several times I was going to send an email, or make a post, during January, but it was just too busy. First, we still had Liberty visiting us. She had the joy of landing at CNX, and smelling the hot air and feeling the excitement that so many tourists feel when they come. But, alas, she left in the first week, back to snowy Ottawa.

One major accomplishment was the typesetting and publishing a mental, emotional, and family health guide for believers, in Kazakh. It was requested late December, and it took all of January to prep it. That included switching the script from cyrillic to RtL; checking the bible verses aligned with the right bible; adding in graphics; choosing the right layout. It took much work, but I finished it in time!

Pray people grow and find freedom.

Two downsides this month. Van's motorcycle broke. And we had a bat hanging around which needed intervention. First, Van's motorbike, the one he worked and saved so much for, died. The engine had a problem, and we discovered that while there might be 1000s of scooter and motorbikes all over Chiang Mai, and 100s of garages to serve them, Kawasaki is not a common make. Bummer. Second, we were noticing piles of fruit, and some kind of gross liquidity buildup under a tree branch near where Mishi would have to walk. We assumed it was some jungle tree process. Until one night Michelle looked up... and there was bat eating said fruit! A quick google suggested wrapping the branches it would hang from in tin foil, so that is what we did, and poor Bat Man moved on. Bye bye.
